10 Chic Items For Fall 2011

With Labor Day and the summer behind us, it’s now coming up on that time of year when every woman asks herself, How to be chic in the cold? With that in mind, we’ve collected 10 marvelous items, all of which are sure to help you accomplish just that. It’s your perfect shopping list for Fall.
Alexander McQueen was one of my favorite designers, and I feel lucky to own so many of his original pieces. This fur-trimmed coat, by Sarah Burton (who worked side-by-side with McQueen and took over as creative director after his death), maintains the McQueen spirit. I would feel divine in it.

In the winter, gloves aren’t mere accessories, they’re an absolute necessity. This elbow-length pair (in silk-lined velvet lambskin with faux rabbit), by Causse Gantier, is utterly chic in its simplicity. So often, less is more.

As I say, less is more–but sometimes more is more (at least in small doses). These over-the-top earrings by Diego Percossi Papi are incredibly bold but also very beautiful. I can see wearing them with a simple dress, or even with an ensemble built around jeans. Why not shake things up a bit?

A blazer is a staple in anyone’s wardrobe–but you also want to add a little spice. And while some pieces from the newly-relaunched Mugler collection are a bit de trop, this jacket’s cut–simple, yet chic–will take you a long way.

I saw this Chanel bag while walking up Madison Avenue last week, and it really caught my eye–the workmanship, featuring metallic python skin, is remarkable. The piece doubles as a clutch and a shoulder bag (there’s a strap hidden inside), which makes it very useful–and while it has the unmistakable stamp of Chanel, the only logo treatment is its double-C clasp. Perfect!

This very-wearable jacket isn’t your typical Gareth Pugh, but the quality of the leather, the sharp shape the neckline, the slight peplum and those strong shoulders would make it a valuable addition to any woman’s wardrobe.

My favorite jeans are by J Brand: the fit is always fab and my legs feel longer when I wear them. This style is the pegged skinny, in the color ink.

An hourglass figure can be chic. Emphasize a trim waistline with a detailed leather belt by Azzedine Alaïa, perfect for cinching anything from a basic t-shirt to a knit dress. Even better, it adds instant rock & roll glam to your look.

I love almost anything made of lace, because it’s both sexy and feminine. And Alber Elbaz, the creative director at Lanvin, always designs pieces that seem to have been made just for me. With this dress, he does it again.

Booties are all the rage this season–not that I’m into trends, but I do like to be au courant. As followers of The Daily Shoe well know, there are plenty of choices, but this Pierre Hardy shoe impressed me with its oversized buckle and its small jolts of color. It would look great with my J Brand jeans…and that Gareth Pugh leather jacket…and that Alaïa belt…
