Coco Avant Chanel

Films about high fashion just keep coming!
After seeing the splendid Valentino: The Last Emperor, I am looking forward to Anne Fontaine’s Coco Avant Chanel. The gorgeous French actress Audrey Tautou plays the famous designer in a film loosely adapted from a biography by Edmonde Charles-Roux. The film follows Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s story of obscure and poor beginnings to her rise as a forward-thinking designer and French fashion icon. Karl Lagerfeld supervised the re-creation of costumes and accessories for the movie. (Does this man ever sleep? He is unstoppable).

The film screened at a Champs-Élysées theater in Paris last week, and afterward the cast headed to Place Vendôme for a cocktail in Chanel’s jewelry boutique. WWD covered the event and has some great shots of Audrey wearing a floral bustier dress from Chanel’s latest couture collection. Stunning as always.
The film opens to the public in France on April 22, but there has not been a release date set for the States. Click here for a trailer of the movie.
