My Tips for Starting Anew in 2010…

We’ve all indulged maybe a bit too much over the holiday, but that’s okay – one should bring down the old year with a bang and start the new one fresh. Here are some of my tips for getting back into the groove…
Exercise
Perhaps you slacked off the past few weeks – I know I did – so it’s time to start again. Do what makes you feel good. I love to swim first thing in the morning – it gets me going for the day. Now that I’m back from South America, I plan to hit the pool at my local Y tomorrow morning.

I also love yoga. Kula Yoga is the best in New York. I’ve practiced a lot of yoga in my day and this place is unlike any other.

Once a week I also do weight training with my trusty personal trainer Adam Swartz at Transform Fitness. It’s called High Intensity Training. It’s impossible – but after 20 minutes, you’re done.
Grooming
Too much sun and your hair color could get a little out of hand. Antony at Oscar Blandi is my long-time colorist – he’ll put you back together. Or maybe you just need to give your locks some extra oomf for the new year. The salon offers a treatment that they call “Botox for the hair” – love it.

I always recommend Janet Sartin for skincare. Janet’s protégé, Polina, has been taking care of my skin for years.
For nails, Dorothy’s Nail Spa. It’s the best nail salon in the world and I have tried many. No website, no advertising. For appointments, call +1 212 410 0089.
Diet
Too much champagne? Just lay off for a little while – nothing happens in the first week or so in January anyway. Take a break from any alcohol and focus on eating well – stay off the carbs. I know it’s hard – I’m a carb lover – but just a few days. Remember, don’t beat yourself up if you put on a few pounds – this is the time to recharge. Try to get a good night’s sleep, too – that’s the best remedy for feeling good.

Or check out Tanya Zuckerbrot of Skinny and the City. I have friends who’ve had major success with her, and the site looks like it has helpful tips for staying healthy year-round.

I wish you all a great new year full of creative ideas and positive thoughts – and success in whatever you do. Every day is a new one and the only moment we have is now – don’t waste it. My healer friend Robin Lee told me that – she’s amazing.
I’ve also heard that The Happiness Project, a book by Gretchen Rubin, is a great read to kick off the new year – Fred Wilson recommended it. I met up with Fred and his wife Joanne, the Gotham Gal, in Buenos Aires over the holiday. They’re a great family – my daughter is friends with theirs – and the book sounds cool: practical tidbits on things you can do to become a happier person. I’ll look forward to reading.
