New York Fashion Week–Fall 2012 Collections
Dennis Basso

New York’s “King of Fur,” Dennis Basso, showed a no-holds-barred Fall collection featuring fur for any occasion, from casual, running-around-town daywear to big-event wraps and coats. Dennis certainly knows his clients’ tastes–and, as usual, the Park Avenue ladies in his front row were busy with their lists. Dennis also added more clothing and accessories (in the form of dresses and bags) to his presentation, which makes sense. Once you have the attention of clients this busy, it pays to provide them with one-stop shopping.

The striking furs shown in a shade of reddish-orange Dennis calls cayenne were definitely statement pieces, and not for every woman–it takes a strong personality to wear such an unusual color. In fact, the entire collection was full of big, bold, glamorous looks, but I was particularly wowed by the fur bags (from giant totes to small evening clutches), which were new additions to Basso’s repertoire. I’ll definitely be adding one to my own must-have list.

From Russian broadtail to sable to chinchilla, Basso’s furs are of marvelous quality and striking design. And his clothing, while not as distinctive, could certainly be developed into an important part of the collection. We shall see!
