PARIS MEN’S SHOWS FALL 2012
Damir Doma

According to the show notes left on each seat, the models Damir Doma sent down the runway represented “restless souls” with what the designer called “techno-Bohemian spirits,” intent on “answering the call of the wild” (hence the raccoon and muskrat fur worn as vests or draped over shoulders). That said, when you peeled away the theatrical accoutrements, there were plenty of handsome clothes that almost any man–restless or not–could relate to.

As was the case with so many of the collections we saw this season, the most appealing looks seemed inspired by military uniforms–a motif kept in check, however, by Damir’s other reigning theme of sumptuously-clad hippies (with layers of love beads). It was an odd juxtaposition, but it often worked well.

Damir uses extraordinary materials, intricate cuts and unusual proportions to differentiate his men’s clothing from practically anything else you’ll find in stores. His work may not be for everyone, but he seems aware of that and named this collection accordingly– Somewhere, someone is waiting for you.
