Prêt-à-Porter Fall 2009:
Yves Saint Laurent

Stefano Pilati presented a collection for Yves Saint Laurent that minimized excess and maximized chic. It was classic with a twist – crisp white shirts and pencil skirts, lots of black leather, very sleek jackets. It was a sophisticated (and perhaps safe) collection, but I could very much see myself wearing it.

I loved the jumpsuits and white shirting designs. Ultra chic, perfectly cut. This whole collection was impeccably tailored. Interestingly, there were no long dresses. Instead, Pilati sent a black tuxedo coat-dress down the runway as his last look. It was obviously a nod to the signature YSL smoking jacket that the legendary designer made popular. But it also signified the understated and elegant qualities of this collection, making the decadent evening wear usually shown seem almost unnecessary. Pilati really maintains the essence of YSL and adds his stamp to it.I was impressed.

Catherine Deneuve continues to support the label each season. Deneuve is considered Yves Saint Laurent’s muse, having been dressed by the designer in the films Belle de Jour, La Chamade, La Sirène du Mississippi, Liza, and The Hunger.
Claudia Schiffer was there, looking beautiful — her red lipstick, long straightened hair and overall timeless style were perfectly matched with this collection. I saw Kanye West and his girlfriend Amber Rose again. Though I’ve heard he is bombastic when it comes to his own music, he’s been delightful! Great energy and, as I said, I love his enthusiasm for fashion.
