Prêt-à-Porter Fall 2010:
Givenchy

Givenchy -

Riccardo Tisci showed an eclectic collection for Givenchy. It was sporty, it was sexy, and above all, it had the characteristic edge that has made this brand one of the most exciting to watch in recent years.

It was more minimalist than his Haute Couture collection back in January. But Riccardo was as inventive as ever. The only thing you can predict about his Givenchy clothes is that they will be modern and strong. Where the influences will come from and what the new look will be is always an exciting discovery. He’s gone from a Morrocan and Middle Eastern look to pop art print to Parisian eroticism in recent seasons. His range has no limits.

Riccardo told me he was inspired by scuba diving and alpine skiing this season. I particularly liked the unzipped scuba look in some of the pants and skirts. Very original.

Though he mixed lace, leather, feathers, sheer jersey and more – Riccardo used mostly black with a blood red accent. The tailoring was sharp and there were touches of glamour and intrigue.

I look forward to this show every season – it’s never same old, same old. This is the brand that’s pushing boundaries – creating bold, beautiful clothing and keeping everyone on their toes at the same time.

That also makes it a hot ticket during Fashion Week. Givenchy is always buzzing with fashion VIP and a cutting edge crowd. The chic trio Anna Dello Russo, Giovanna Battaglia and Carine Roitfeld were there, along with Carine’s daughter Julia Restoin Roitfeld, Pucci designer Peter Dundas, and Anna Piaggi.

I introduced myself to photographer Terry Richardson and Pierre Bergé, who is organizing several retrospective projects this year on his late partner, the inimitable Yves Saint Laurent.
