PrÊT-À-PORTER FALL 2011
AKRIS

I’ve been attending Akris shows for many years, thanks to the suggestion of my friend Spela Lenarcic-Spinoza (who was featured in my book, Chic In Paris). Spela is an amazing woman and stylist, who’s now producing a luxury-and-culture supplement for Le Monde. I admit, I’m so proud of her!

Susan with Akris designer, Albert Kriemler
Swiss designer Albert Kriemler is a master craftsman: his fabrics, cuts and construction are all top quality and I can appreciate how much work goes into his designs for Akris. Many New York businesswomen love the brand, because the clothes do what they’re supposed to do; they’re relatively safe; and you can’t go wrong wearing them (making them perfect for women who always need to look “properly” dressed). But while I understand their appeal, reliability isn’t as important to me as fashion excitement. Akris offers this season’s versions of the same shapes, over and over again, which definitely serves a purpose. I, however, will always need more of an edge!
