Prêt-à-Porter Spring 2011:
Yves Saint Laurent

Yves Saint Laurent showed at the Hôtel Salomon de Rothschild, one of the most beautiful hôtels particuliers I’ve ever seen. It was a new venue for YSL, but appropriate, since it conveyed so many of the qualities associated with the brand: it was chic, glamorous and very elegant.

After a rough couple of seasons, the maison appears to have found its way again–and this collection was outstanding. Stefano Pilati seems to have abandoned the gimmicks and gone back to what made Yves Saint Laurent so essential–elegant simplicity.

I didn’t love everything (there were some ruffled suits and dresses that weren’t really my thing) but the tops, pants and jumpsuits were absolutely sublime. I also loved the new square neckline.

The last look–a black jumpsuit with draped shoulders–was my absolute favorite, and had me wondering if it was Stefano’s take on YSL’s classic smoking? In any case, it was such a pleasure to feel so excited about a collection, and I walked out of the show with a huge smile on my face!
