Join Susan as she covers Fashion’s Night Out 2011, the third incarnation of this annual, late-night retail party that’s become a New York institution and inspired similar events in cities around the world. Susan and her team cover the waterfront, from the new Michael Kors flagship in Rockefeller Center to Manolo Blahnik on 54th Street (where Sarah Jessica Parker was signing shoes) to Madison Avenue’s Bally, Barneys and Tory Burch stores. And, to finish it off, a last stop at Realm, in Soho. Happy shopping, everyone!
Add a commentCatch up with Susan at the end of her busy holiday in Milan (much of it spent shopping, of course), and slip past crowds of excited fans outside the party Dolce & Gabbana threw for Justin Bieber at Gold. Then hit Milan’s always-reliable Plastic and find a spot on the dance floor. Ciao, bello!
Add a commentTo celebrate the opening of its retrospective exhibit, 125 Years of Italian Magnificence, Bulgari recently hosted a private cocktail vernissage at the Grand Palais in Paris. Notable guests included Juliette Binoche, Lenny Kravitz, Julianne Moore, Clive Owen and Carole Bouquet; but the legendary faces on display–Elizabeth Taylor, Anna Magnani, Sophia Loren–not to mention the jewelry itself, were the real stars of the show.
Continue readingParis Fashion Week means more than just the shows themselves–there’s also party after party, night after night. Join me at some of this season’s best events, including the Hogan bash for Karl Lagerfeld; soirées hosted by Fendi, Grazia magazine and Champagne Dom Pérignon; and Paris Vogue ‘s spectacular, 90th-anniversary masked ball. Along the way, you’ll see Courtney Love and Duran Duran perform, while models, designers and the rest of the fashion crowd hit the dance floors.
Add a commentI love to dance, which means I love great music to dance to. And as part of my seasonal Paris sojourns at the Hôtel de Crillon, I’ve gotten into the habit of listening to my iPod while unpacking. It makes the process a lot more fun, but it also slows me down–I stop when I hear a good song (which is often), and then I just start dancing! Still, it’s a habit I’m not ready to break–in fact, I’m really addicted. One of my daughters recently downloaded a lot of music from her iPod to mine, and I’ve been listening to it while I’m up late at night, working. It’s relaxing, inspiring and it makes me happy. I’d forgotten about pop music for a while, but this made me realize what I’d been missing. These days, I’m back in the groove and I find myself dancing everywhere –even in my kitchen. Here are some of my favorites–a mix of old and new–and all of them perfect for summer getaways, beach parties or just dancing by yourself!
Continue readingParis Fashion Week isn’t just about next season’s clothes–its nightlife offers invitation-only parties and plenty of time for relaxing after each long day of runway shows. From a soirée hosted by Rika magazine for Maison Michel (where, par hasard, I ran into my friend Michelle Harper) to Maxim’s Chez Lui, hosted by dynamic duo Marc Zaffutto and Emmanuel d’Orazio, to the New York, New York party at Regine’s (where I bumped into fellow New Yorker Jessica Wilson and her entourage), we danced up a storm!
Continue readingI am not a big fan of Halloween–I really prefer being myself rather than struggling with a costume. Having said that, there was certainly no way I was going to miss Alber Elbaz’s Halloween bash to fête the opening of his new Lanvin boutique on Madison Avenue.
Continue readingA few years ago, I bumped into Irina Dvorovenko and her husband Max Beloserkovsky on Madison Avenue. I knew who they were, of course, but wasn’t sure they knew me. Turns out, they did. We had a lovely chat there on the street, and they apologized for not being able to attend the launch of my book, Chic In Paris. Instead, they asked me to Rome to see them dance in a new production of Swan Lake. I’d planned to be in Europe at the same time, and couldn’t resist such a kind invitation. As a balletomane, I’ve often seen them perform, and it’s always magical. Now, we’ve become friends.
Continue readingThis season, team Dior Homme took over the Tennis Club de Paris and transformed its playing courts into a grand Parisian apartment, complete with parquet floors, three fireplaces and six enormous chandeliers. Everyone loves to see what Kris Van Assche will unveil next for Dior Homme, so the fashion flock, as well as celebrities like Sean “Diddy” Combs and French film star Lambert Wilson, made their way into the arena and took seats on risers surrounding three sides of the floor.
Continue readingParis Fashion Week isn’t just about runway shows–there’s the nightlife, too. And while fashion parties are a lot of fun (and a great excuse for dressing up), they’re also an important way to reconnect with friends, meet new people and hear about the next big thing.
