Cinéma in Paris:
Classic and à la Mode

Classic and à la Mode -

I’ve just landed in Paris, and I feel that rush of excitement I get when I’m here.  This city is divine…

Just as I was leaving New York, Nora Baldenweg, a journalist here in Paris, sent me a note about the opening night of the Nouvelle Vague film retrospective earlier in the week. I bump into Nora time-to-time when I’m here. I loved reading her account of the evening and wanted to share it with you.

Movie Trailer:
The September Issue

The September Issue -

I mentioned the film back in May when Anna Wintour was on 60 Minutes, and now the trailer for Vogue’s documentary The September Issue has hit the web.

The movie appears to offer more than just a behind-the-scenes look at how the magazine’s vital fall fashion issue is put together.  It shows the influence and power that Anna Wintour wields in the industry at large.

From the Chanel and Dior film campaigns to the Valentino documentary, there has been a lot of cinematic fashion of late!  I am excited to see this one come fall.

Coco Avant Chanel

_Coco Avant Chanel_ -

Films about high fashion just keep coming!

Karl Lagerfeld supervised the re-creation of costumes and accessories for the movie.  (Does this man ever sleep?  He is unstoppable).

Valentino: The Last Emperor

_Valentino: The Last Emperor_ -

Before departing for Europe on Sunday, I went to see the new movie Valentino: The Last Emperor at New York’s Film Forum downtown. And I absolutely loved it. So much, in fact, I just might see it again when I return from my travels!  It is a touching tribute to the legendary designer’s work and the final stages of his prolific career. More than that, though, the movie reveals the extraordinary relationship between Valentino and Giancarlo Giammetti, his business partner and companion of 50 years.
