I love to dance, which means I love great music to dance to. And as part of my seasonal Paris sojourns at the Hôtel de Crillon, I’ve gotten into the habit of listening to my iPod while unpacking. It makes the process a lot more fun, but it also slows me down–I stop when I hear a good song (which is often), and then I just start dancing! Still, it’s a habit I’m not ready to break–in fact, I’m really addicted. One of my daughters recently downloaded a lot of music from her iPod to mine, and I’ve been listening to it while I’m up late at night, working. It’s relaxing, inspiring and it makes me happy. I’d forgotten about pop music for a while, but this made me realize what I’d been missing. These days, I’m back in the groove and I find myself dancing everywhere –even in my kitchen. Here are some of my favorites–a mix of old and new–and all of them perfect for summer getaways, beach parties or just dancing by yourself!
Continue readingTomorrow is The New York City Ballet’s annual Spring Gala, and I am looking forward to attending. The evening will include two world premiere performances and then the Supper Ball on the Promenade. I haven’t posted anything on the NYCB since the Annual Luncheon back in February, so I’ll be sure to provide a recap and some photos following Wednesday’s event …
Continue readingFollowing her attendance at last week’s Haute Couture shows, Dita Von Teese will remain in Paris to perform a nude revue at famed cabaret Crazy Horse. Her two week run as resident artist will close on Valentine’s Day.
Continue readingA few years ago, I bumped into Irina Dvorovenko and her husband Max Beloserkovsky on Madison Avenue. I knew who they were, of course, but wasn’t sure they knew me. Turns out, they did. We had a lovely chat there on the street, and they apologized for not being able to attend the launch of my book, Chic In Paris. Instead, they asked me to Rome to see them dance in a new production of Swan Lake. I’d planned to be in Europe at the same time, and couldn’t resist such a kind invitation. As a balletomane, I’ve often seen them perform, and it’s always magical. Now, we’ve become friends.
Continue readingAfter a sold-out two week run in February, Dita Von Teese returns to the stage of the Crazy Horse for another two week stint between March 16th to 27th. She’s the first guest star in the history of the famed Parisian nightclub. Dita has brought the sensuality of burlesque back into mainstream, but she also happens to look spectacular fully-clothed! I’ve seen her at the Haute Couture shows in the past, and she is always dressed to the nines.
Continue readingI have been an avid balletomane all my life. In fact, I wanted to be a dancer. Since that was not my calling, I am a passionate fan and frequent attendee of The New York City Ballet performances and galas. Now that I am in the fashion business, I have the opportunity to wear glamorous gowns to these events!
This year the Opening Night was indeed a glamorous affair. The performance was a compilation of old and new ballets, and the creative aspect of a film in the program added a new dimension to the evening.
Continue readingLast Wednesday night was the New York City Ballet Spring Gala. Over the years, I’ve posted many entries on the ballet. Like fashion, it is an art form that truly inspires me. I’ve been a balletomane and avid supporter of the The New York City Ballet for a long time, so it’s always a pleasure to attend the galas and mingle with fellow enthusiasts.
Continue readingAs a dance aficionado and devoted fan of The New York City Ballet for a number of years, Susan has served both as a patron of the NYCB and a member of their Working Committee. A Dancer’s Life was the theme of the recent 2009 Annual Luncheon, and the event offered a behind-the-scenes look at the Company, with panel discussions and dance demonstrations capturing the journey of a ballerina through the various stages of training, apprenticeship and, finally, a professional career in the company.
